"Mangatuna" Conservation Eco-retreat
An 83 hectare native forest restoration project, mostly protected by QE II covenants with a pristine stream running through it.
Principles of permaculture and biodynamic management of the land have been used since the early 1990's encouraging the regrowth of native plants and trees and attracting a wide range of insects and birds.
A DOC style, self-sufficient two bedroom dwelling has a large living space opening out on to decking which looks across the bush, up the valley to the skyline. Solar power and bottled gas provides energy to cook, heat water, run the fridge and lights. Generators are used as a back up.
Across the stream a further building could be used as a bedroom or a retreat. Several clearings are designated for hut sites.
All this is 20 minutes from Gisborne making it accessable for eco-education and a conservation retreat. A unique opportunity.
