SUSTAINABLE LIFESTYLE
12 Apollo Place, Hamilton
OPEN HOME SUNDAY 1pm
Take a rammed earth house and combine it with European sensibilities and you have the makings of a healthy and environmentally sustainable home that is truly unique.
This spacious home in Rototuna was built two years ago by a Belgian family who dreamed of a house that had the soul of a character home but the low maintenance and convenience of a new one. Quality and integrity are words that come to mind as you step inside this home. As one of the owners says I hate a half job and I really feel good about the fact that we didn't compromise on quality while building the house. I love the fact that all the materials we used are reliable and I feel houses need to be built to last, which this one definitely will. I love the fact that the house was built with passion, real skill and craftsmanship.
The unique benefits of rammed earth construction plus concrete flooring mean the home stays cool in summer and warm in winter, through natural thermal regulation. The owners have added gas central heating, double glazing and an open fire for extra comfort. The rammed earth construction also provides excellent sound insulation not to mention the unique design finish it provides. The natural earth colour is complemented throughout the house with restful Bio-paint tones, oiled concrete flooring and soft window treatments.

Rich natural timbers have been used for all joinery and the kitchen is a testimony to the true craftsmanship with which this house has been built. Constructed onsite, the macrocarpa cupboards and shelving are complimented by granite bench tops, large butlers sink and spacious pantry.
This home boasts many features to create that holiday feeling including spacious living areas opening through French doors onto a flat landscaped section and a large swimming pool close enough to keep an eye on the children while meals are being prepared in the kitchen. There is plenty of room for the family to relax and spread out with a separate media room fully wired with surround sound and a separate sound-insulated music room which could become an artist's studio or extra accommodation. Upstairs four bedrooms are complimented by a luxurious bathroom, including a bath surround painstakingly tiled with natural pebbles. Back downstairs the master bedroom enjoys views through its own French doors into the garden and a majestic oak tree that heralds the changing seasons. A large office, again with doors opening into the garden plus a laundry with spacious storage room
(which could be an ideal wine cellar), round out this stunning home's offerings.
Situated in a quiet cul de sac, and just minutes from the Rototuna shopping centre and local schools, this unique home offers an opportunity to live in a stylish yet high performing green home unlike anything else. Come and see why the current owners feel as if they are on holiday everyday.
Rototuna is one of Hamilton's newer suburbs and is located in the Northern part of the city. Homes in the area are typically new and generously sized which makes Rototuna a very sought after area for new home buyers and those wanting executive type homes. There are a number of primary schools in the area including the very popular Hukanui primary school.
Shopping needs are well catered for in Rototuna. There are three supermarkets in close proximity (New World, Foodtown and Woolworths) and a Westfield mall housing major chain stores. Library, veterinary services and other amenities can be found at nearby Chartwell.
Rototuna and Chartwell are well connected by public transport. The Orbitor bus circuits the city and provides links to key destinations including Flagstaff, Chartwell, University, Hospital, Dinsdale, Wintec and the Base. The service runs Monday to Friday every 15 minutes and Saturday every 30 minutes.
