Motueka enjoyed a boom time in the 1960s as the major tobacco-growing centre in the country. Motueka is near a number of beaches and is within a short drive of the world famous golden sand Kaiteriteri and Marahau beaches and the gateway town to the Abel Tasman and KahurangiNational Parks. Tasman District is one of the highest growth regions in the country, this trend is anticipated to continue in the future. Not only is the district one of the most popular tourist destinations in New Zealand but is also sought after as a lifestyle area with everything to offer. The small area tranquillity has been retained but with the huge benefit of having Nelson city with all its amenities at the doorstep.
