About Taranaki

The Taranaki Region is watched over by the spectacular Mt. Taranaki, and offers a huge range of outdoor activities

Taranaki represents everything that's good about provincial New Zealand – things like Kiwi ingenuity and good old-fashioned hard work.

Half way between Auckland and Wellington, on the west coast of the north island, this is a region that relies heavily on dairy farming as well as oil, natural gas and petrochemical exploration for prosperity.

New Plymouth, with a population of around the 50,000 people, is the main city in the region. And Mt Taranaki is the major landmark.

Sure, it lacks the bright lights of Auckland. But who needs them when you can ski, water ski and surf all in the same day?
