About Wanganui

The Wanganui Region is a rugged area of which the beautiful Whanganui river is the focus

Not a lot goes on in Wanganui and therein lies much of its charm. Minus the tourist traps of many other smaller towns across New Zealand, it is a great place to unwind and really get to know people.

Between New Plymouth and Wellington on the west coast of the north island, Wanganui sits on the banks of the scenic Whanganui River, a 290-kilometre stretch of water that was once advertised internationally as the 'Rhine of Maoriland'.

If you ever get the chance, be sure to stop by the Bridge to Nowhere.
