In 1956-7, fresh from conquering the world's highest peak, Sir Edmund Hillary built his family home in the heart of Remuera. This was to prove a haven for Sir Ed for the remainder of his life. Despite his many accomplishments overseas, this was the place to which he loved to return. It was the scene of many a family gathering and party, with dignitaries from all over the world experiencing the special Hillary brand of hospitality and entertainment.
