With 42 hectares of grapes situated on sloping downs, this 49.5 hectare property has scope size and quality.
This site was deliberately chosen for its ability to attract the katabatic breezes to alleviate potential frost damage and maintain a healthy environment for the plants. The climate and soil grows grapes making Sauvignon Blanc with ripe, tropical fruit aromas whilst showing softer fruit characters combined with lovely length and texture on the palate. Since the first harvest in 2007, Sutherland Sauvignon Blanc grapes have been used by some of the most prestigious Martinborough wineries.
Water is stored in a large irrigation lake. Sheep grazing begins after harvest until final burst, which controls grass and reduces use of sprays, reducing the vineyard's carbon footprint. The vineyard has Sustainable Winegrowing of New Zealand accreditation.
An excellent office and staff facility and substantial sheds for implements and machinery are part of the offer. The vineyard offers a potential building site for a home with impressive 360 degree views over the vineyard and greater Wairarapa valley.
A unique offering; very hard to find vineyards of this size and proven quality.
