A RARE OPPORTUNITY

Rainbow Station is set at the head of the Wairau Valley approximately one-hour drive from both Nelson and Blenheim at the top of the South Island. The history and size of Rainbow Station, along with its proven productivity and diversification make it uniquely attractive as a farming enterprise. The property is one of the region's largest, with an area of 8,321 hectares (20,500 acres) and farms approximately 14,000 stock units, a mix of sheep and cattle.

The station has been revitalised under its current ownership and has undergone a carefully planned and full farming development programme. The carrying capacity has been substantially increased with astute management. There have been vast improvements made to the property including additional subdivision, increased fertilizer application, new reticulated stock water schemes and pasture development including lucerne.

The station currently runs 6,700 Perendale ewes and 480 Hereford or Angus-cross cows and their progeny. The majority of the lambs are finished on the property depending on the season.

The property produces hay and silage, as well as brassica crops and there is scope for further crop and feed development. Rainbow Station also has pine trees, which are subject to forestry right agreements expiring in 2030, as well as large areas of native bush. It is virtually surrounded by Nelson Lakes National Park, providing unparalleled scenic grandeur and presence.

The station, including its farmland and private formed roads and tracks, includes leased land from the Crown as well as substantial freehold. The property includes extensive river frontage on both the Wairau and Rainbow rivers, both well renowned as excellent trout fishing rivers as well as their numerous tributaries.

Rob Wallace says the farming origins of Rainbow Station make this a unique opportunity for an astute investor/farmer to purchase one of New Zealand's iconic high country stations.
