One of the longest continually-owned farms in New Zealand - maintained by descendants of the same family for 151 years - has been placed on the market for sale.
The 2616 hectare Mount Cook Station bordering Lake Pukaki in South Canterbury has been owned by the Burnett family since 1864. It was first settled by Scottish migrants Andrew and Catherine Burnett.
Mount Cook Station is an historic run to the east of the Tasman River with frontage to the head of Lake Pukaki. It has been through the tenure review process and is now 2616.9889ha freehold. Mount Cook Station runs super fine saxon merino sheep.
The main homestead comprising of six bedrooms, two bathrooms and good living areas has been renovated to a very good standard. Other buildings on the property include a farm manager's three bedroom home, two sleepouts, a three bedroom shearers' quarters, a barn and hayshed, indoor stock shed, woolshed, tractor shed and two bay garage.
