Bangor Estate

Deadline Sale - 1pm, Wed 27 June 2018 (unless sold prior)

'Bangor Estate' offers a lifestyle open to the interpretation of your dreams!

The 32.7713 hectare country estate is set among established mature grounds and gardens, with an unparalleled view of the Alps. The homestead would not look out of place in an early renaissance painting, with neoclassical and gothic influences a credit to the architectural design of the Ward family's ancestral home, Castle Ward in Ireland.

Bangor Estate is unassumingly young for her years. Originally of stone construction, this initial homestead still remains as cellaring beneath the current dwelling. Common of the earliest British farming settlements, Bangor Estate has a point of difference in its aristocratic origins - Viscount Bangor dispatched his nephews aboard the ship the 'Charlotte Jane' to establish an English deer park on rural land in newly established Canterbury. Unfortunately, this was never realised, when the first shipment of deer perished at sea less than a year before the tragic and mysterious drowning of Edward and Henry in Lyttelton Harbor, leaving John-Hamilton on his own at just 16 years old. Another of the siblings, arrived the following year and founded the estate in 1854 true to his uncle's mission.

Today the homestead, bedrooms and external units bear the names of these influential persons, alluding to the truly rich history of the estate. Thriving oak, ash and elm trees are documented as part of the estate, existing as a result of the brother's horticultural ability and the appropriate seed which accompanied them aboard the 'Charlotte Jane'. The grounds contribute to the noted scenic beauty of the surrounding area.

The homestead has undergone significant refurbishment whilst still retaining all of its charm and character. Other features of the property include extensive equestrian facilities, in ground heated pool, two additional accommodation units ideal for guests/ B&B, two separate titles, 17 paddocks and plentiful water supply.
