A Hokianga local, Mrs Anderson (previously Nicole Presland-Tack) helped lead New Zealand Women’s National Rugby League Team, known as the Kiwi Ferns to victory in the inaugural World Cup held in 2000.
The former team co-captain who has also played for the NZ Maori Women’s Rugby League Team and Counties in rugby union, has since hung up her rugby boots. Together with her husband she is now planning to tackle a new, long-held dream – buying a farm.
“We have an opportunity to buy a reasonable size acreage near to where we have shifted in the Waikato. It is a drystock block that needs a lot of improvement, so we need to release the capital from the Hokianga property to do so,” she said.
Mr Anderson had a number of farm lease blocks in the Hokianga and the next step was always to buy, he said.
“That opportunity has now presented itself in the Waikato, so unfortunately the house we always thought we would see our days out in must be sold.”
The couple has placed their secluded waterfront Hokianga property, which is a sought-after rental home, on the market for sale with Bayleys Kerikeri salesperson David Baguley. The property is being sold through an auction process on December 3.

The retreat is priced from $290 a night for the first six guests and an additional $25 per adult and $15 per child per night during the peak season.
A caretaker who lives locally, welcomes guests and does the cleaning and looks after the property would be happy to continue to do so for the new owners, said Mr Baguley.
