Historic homestead and farm in the Wairarapa

Located on the northern section of the Huangarua River and on the outskirts of Martinborough is Puruatanga. Being offered in two lots, Puruatanga’ s 143 hectares encompasses a homestead with 13 hectares and a 130-hectare block of farmland.

Built on a secluded, elevated site, Puruatanga homestead is surrounded by mature gardens. The 1980’s two-storey, four-bedroom house is in keeping with the original character, but also features modern comforts, says Tim Falloon of Bayleys Wairarapa.

The property provides multiple recreational opportunities: “Offering outstanding country living, with river frontage, pony paddocks, extensive grounds and fruit trees all on its front doorstep,” said Mr Falloon.

Situated nearby on the boundary of Martinborough is the farm, which has been subdivided into 40 paddocks. The farm is accessed by a 5km private road that travels up river flats, to hilltop views across to the Kaikoura Ranges.

Soil is Greytown silt loam, Martinborough loam and Gladstone hill soils. Water is pumped from a bore by the woolshed to tanks and gravity fed. Average annual rainfall is 780mm.

Puruatanga has an excellent balance of contour with land on the homestead block made up of rolling hill and flat, said Mr Falloon. The 130-hectare block is made up of river flats, 52 hectares, terraces, 28 hectares, and the remaining 50 hectares, are medium hills, making it an ideal cropping and fattening property, said Mr Falloon. The flats have been cropped in Lucerne, fodder crops and onions.

“Currently leased, this property offers a wide variety of farming options from cropping and grazing to event tourism. This could be an investment option for a

new owner in its current leased form, or could be converted into your own farm account in the future,” said Mr Falloon.

The property is located five minutes from the popular wine village of Martinborough, 30 minutes to Masterton and an hour to Wellington.

Puruatanga is for sale as two lots through a tender process closing on May 14. View online at www.bayleys.co.nz/753420
