After 25 years in the SAP and IT industry, working on major projects in New Zealand and overseas, Ferd Swinkels was ready for a new challenge. He wanted a career that was more personal, where he could use his problem-solving skills and experience to help people. Real estate was a natural fit, and he’s excited about what the next 25 years will bring.

Ferd first came to New Zealand in 2002 to test his rugby skills in one of the world’s strongest rugby nations. Having represented the Netherlands, including at the 1996 Junior World Cup, he was keen for a new challenge. During his time here, he met his wife, and they decided to make New Zealand home.

With BBA and MBA degrees from the University of Waikato and a New Zealand Certificate in Real Estate (Level 4), Ferd is focused on becoming one of the leading agents in the South Waikato. He chose Bayleys because he believes working with the best is key to achieving the best results.

Ferd is also a long-time student of Kyudo, the Japanese art of archery. Its guiding principle, Seisha Hicchu — “correct shooting, certain hitting” — reflects his approach to real estate: prepare thoroughly, give honest advice, and focus on getting the details right.

Ferd has called Putāruru home for more than a decade, where he lives with his wife and two daughters. Many locals know him as “Dutchy”, a nickname that’s stuck over the years. He still enjoys playing rugby in the Waikato Presidents’ competition and exploring the region’s hiking trails.

Family is important to Ferd. His wife teaches at Te Hiringa in Tokoroa, while his eldest daughter teaches at Kaokaoroa Kōhanga Reo.

Outside of work, Ferd enjoys Dutch techno music and occasionally breaks into an air-drumming solo.
