Andrew Smith has been one of Bayleys Capital Commercial’s most consistent performers over the last decade, underlined by the fact that he is among a small number of leading agents invited to become shareholders in the company in 2013.
Andrew specialises in industrial and commercial sales and leasing, predominantly in Seaview and Petone in Lower Hutt and Te Aro in Wellington city. He has sold and leased a wide range of properties, and has a particularly strong track record of success in selling service stations, motor vehicle dealerships and vacant industrial buildings to owner occupiers.
Andrew worked in the motor vehicle industry from 1980 in various sales and management roles and was marketing manager for Mercedes Benz for five years and operated his own business for 16 years before joining Bayleys in 2004. He has also spent time in the building industry which has given him an insight into the fundamentals of construction.
Andrew recognised at an early stage that success in sales is dependent on the relationships and trust that are built with customers and many of the clients on his large database date back to his early selling days. He has undertaken multiple transactions for many of his clients. Time spent getting to know and understand their business and requirements means he is always on the lookout for opportunities for them.
Andrew believes an important part of a salesperson’s role is to add value to transactions to the benefit of both vendors and purchasers. A natural aptitude for lateral thinking, coupled with his vast industry knowledge and contacts, has also enabled him to help parties conclude transactions that might otherwise have fallen over.
