About Anthony

Anthony grew up in Sydney where he had an upbringing that revolved around sailing and the ocean, for which he is hugely grateful.

Anthony’s ambition to sail competitively led to an Olympic campaign in the Laser class, which created opportunities that saw him spend the next 15 years racing yachts all around the globe as a professional sailor.  Anthony competed in the Volvo Ocean Race (formerly Whitbread Race) three times, an Americas Cup campaign in 2007 as well as almost every major international offshore yacht race.

Anthony met his wife, Amanda, a local Cambridge girl, and in 2007 the two of them returned to Cambridge.  In 2009 Anthony launched his real estate career, with a particular focus on lifestyle properties around the Cambridge and the Waikato.  Anthony also trained as an auctioneer, conducting auctions for farms, residential and lifestyle properties across the Waikato.  His training and experience as an auctioneer helps him to better understand the way people operate when buying and selling properties, this experience aids to make the process as smooth as possible whilst achieving the best possible result for his clients.

Having worked and sailed in teams for many years, Anthony understands the importance of good and accurate communication between himself and his clients, this is one of the cornerstones of his success in business and in sport in the past and into the future.

Anthony Merrington undertook the sale of our rural Cambridge bungalow shortly after Christmas of 2016 by an auction Campaign.  He brought through close to 40 potential buyers, was consistent with reports on all the activity.

He continued to doggedly bring people out even whilst we were negotiating a contract just in case things did not go to plan, which they did not.  He brought in a cash buyer towards the eleventh hour, much to our surprise, but as things went the sale proceeded with the first contract.

Anthony’s dedication to the sale was monumental and his attitude was one of total professionalism and quality.

His dress code should be held up as an example to all the many sloppy dressers in the business world, it makes an amazing difference to see someone looking smart and up to date and dapper.  Self pride is a very important virtue.
