Christchurch City Mission
Major Business Partner
As Major Business Partner to the Christchurch City Mission we’re committed to giving back to the community we live and work in, while helping to inspire positive change and thriving communities.
The Mission runs 13 vital services, including an emergency foodbank, emergency night shelters, addiction counselling and their Back to School programme. They offer a pathway forward paved with fresh hope.
When we come together and stand with our communities incredible things happen. Through our Major Business Partnership with the Christchurch City Mission we intend to make a positive difference for our people, and our communities across Canterbury.
“Our partnership with Bayleys Canterbury has brought tremendous benefit to struggling families in our community. We are grateful to have their continued commitment.”
Corinne Haines, CEO - City Missioner, Christchurch City Mission
Official Community Partner
Rugby unites our community, brings joy, and inspires our children. We are delighted to be involved as the Official Community Partner to the Crusaders, as we believe both of our organisations care deeply about doing the right thing and doing it well.
It’s no secret that the people of Canterbury love the Crusaders, by supporting the Crusaders we are also supporting their community of fans and we take huge pride playing our small part in making that magic happen.
“We’re fortunate to work alongside Bayleys Canterbury, who dedicate their partnership with us to delivering a variety of community-based initiatives throughout the region.”
Colin Mansbridge, CEO The Crusaders
We are exceptionally proud to be Principal Partner of Matatū, especially at such a pinnacle time when female professional sport is moving from strength to strength.
Just as we stand with the Crusaders we also partner with Matatū as they gear up for the all new Super Rugby Aupiki competition. Celebrating inclusivity, equality and helping this bunch of sports women pave the way for greater representation of women in diversity in sport.
Twenty-nine women were selected for the Matatū squad and given the opportunity, for the first time, to be paid professional rugby players marking a huge step forward in gender equity within sport in Aotearoa.
We welcome being part of this historic side and supporting their ambition to inspire the next generation of elite female rugby stars, because a little inspiration can go a long way. What an inspiration to our up-and-coming youth players.
“We love working with Bayleys Canterbury, who share our passion to support and grow women’s rugby and empower our wāhine to be the best they can be.”
Sarah Munro, GM Matatū
Christchurch Art Gallery Te Puna o Waiwhetū
If it benefits the people of Canterbury and Aotearoa, we’re all for it.
Christchurch Art Gallery Te Puna o Waiwhetū is renowned internationally but much loved at home in Canterbury offering something for everyone.
An inspiring destination which shares our passion for art and education, Christchurch Art Gallery delivers a vibrant programme of art-related social and cultural events to the people of Canterbury.
Art brings people together physically through its capacity to tell a story, so it is a proud moment for us seeing the people of Canterbury enjoying art, culture and togetherness in the iconic Bayleys Knight Frank Foyer.
“Galleries need to be places that encourage the experiential, where all are welcome. Christchurch Art Gallery Te Puna o Waiwhetū is proud to have the Bayleys Knight Frank Foyer as a welcoming space for all our visitors.”
Blair Jackson, Director Christchurch Art Gallery
Surfing for Farmers
Surfing for Farmers offers mental and physical stress relief, and escape from farmers’ everyday lives, by bringing farmers together, off the farm and into the surf to enhance mana and well-being.
One night each week over summer, we trade the paddock for the beach, swapping swanndris for surfboards on beaches around Canterbury. The programme runs for approximately 13 weeks from December.
Farmers are provided with surfing gear (wetsuits, surfboards), free lessons and barbeque where participants can swap surfing stories and have a general catch-up.
No need to book, just turn up for a friendly, welcomed experience, and a beer and yarn after the surf.
“For farmers, stepping back from the job can be especially hard. Surfing is a way to disconnect from this high pressure environment.”

Bayleys Plate Up for a Purpose
An education is vital to a young person’s chances in life. Christchurch City Missions Back to School Programme allows children the opportunity to gain an education. Bayleys Plate Up for a Purpose underpins this programme allowing all children go to school on an equal footing.
This means with a warm uniform, shoes and books Canterbury children can attend school, gain an education, and achieve their career goals.
Through collaboration with our business leaders, our community, Christchurch City Mission and our own team of people, we have created a cycle of giving that has a lasting impact on our community.
“We are incredibly grateful for the privilege of our authentic and purpose-led partnership with Bayleys Canterbury.”
Matthew Mark, CEO , Christchurch City Mission
Bayleys Bring What You Can
Food poverty is all too common. Some families in Canterbury are so close to the edge, that a small, unexpected bill leaves their cupboards empty, we intend to make a positive difference to the lives of these people.
Bayleys Bring What You Can is our yearly food drive in support of the Christchurch City Missions foodbank. Putting good nutrition into the hands of those who need it could not be done without help of the Christchurch City Missions foodbank.
The Crusaders joined us, using their powerful voice to encourage Cantabrians to ‘Bring What You Can’ to help and across Canterbury everyday people rallied together with food donations flooding into our offices helping fill the City Mission’s foodbank for the winter months ahead.
For the second year in a row Bayleys hosted the curtain raiser between St Thomas of Canterbury College and Christ's College First XV at Orangetheory Stadium. In gifting 2,000 tickets to schools, friends and family were able to take a place in the stands to watch our future Crusaders play. Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed students can change the outcome of others, these students created their own circle of giving by exchanging tickets for non-perishable food donations in support of Bayleys Bring What You Can, opening up opportunities for discussions around food poverty and the positive messaging that comes from helping others in need.
“Thanks to Bayleys for their incredible support of St Thomas of Canterbury College and the wider community. A lot of businesses talk a good game about supporting community however Bayleys deliver with authentic intentions across many Christchurch communities, supporting mental health and those less well-off. For our boys going to watch a super rugby game, or for some playing a curtain raiser at the stadium through the ‘Bring what you Can’ – a chance of a lifetime.”
Mark Hammett, Director of high Performance and Wellbeing, St Thomas of Canterbury College
Bayleys on a Mission
When you walk into reception at Bayleys Canterbury your eyes are drawn to the whakatauki on the wall. “He tāngata, he tāngata, he tāngata.” It is the people. And people are at the heart of Bayleys on a Mission.
Bayleys on a Mission is a sustainable fundraising effort and way of thinking. We hand on heart believe in the power of business to adopt positive change and the best way to drive transformative change is to make sure everyone has a seat at the table.
Working with local craftspeople to create a themed Pear & Brown Sugar candle, tea towel and jigsaw puzzle to raise additional funds for the Christchurch City Mission, these feature in our E-commerce store, for anyone on a mission of change to purchase.
Want to get involved? When you purchase a tea towel or a jigsaw puzzle – profits are delivered back to the Christchurch City Mission.
“The momentum is care about community, equality and wellbeing for all. We don’t have all the answers, but we are passionate that the best way to drive transformative change is to make sure everyone has a seat at the table.”
Pete Whalan, CEO Bayleys Canterbury.
