To market, to market

As the Farmers’ Market movement gains momentum, lifestyle block owners have an outlet for their produce close to home.

People who think seriously about food have come to realise that ‘local’ is at least as important a word as ‘organic’. It’s essentially about shortening the food chain and putting producers directly in front of consumers, bypassing the layers of middlemen and foregoing the clipping of distribution “tickets” along the way.

Farmers’ markets around New Zealand are the ideal place for lifestyle block owners to tout their locally-grown produce. We look at the philosophy behind the farmers’ market movement and talk to a couple of growers about getting seasonal produce to the stall.
