James Valintine was always going to end up in the world of property – it was just a matter of when. His father, Richard, was formerly Bayleys senior national auctioneer then headed up the sales team at Bayleys Taranaki, following which he managed the team at Bayleys Counties.
“Property has always been a keen topic of conversation in our home and I knew that ultimately, I would like a career in real estate,” says James who, for the last four years has been working in the health sector in Singapore.
“I believe that real estate is all about relationship-building. Strong communication skills are at the core of that and my time spent at the front line of the health industry has certainly honed my ability to relate to people, understand their needs and decide on the best plan of action to meet their expectations. These are definitely transferable strengths to take into my real estate career.”
Now firmly under the wing of Mike Houlker and David Gubb, Bayleys No.1 National Commercial and Industrial Sales People 2011, James is fine-tuning his property skills at Bayleys Auckland Central office.

The exchange of market knowledge between salespeople is invaluable to James who is quickly building a comprehensive foundation of sales stats, trends and projections to build upon while working to consolidate an active database of sellers and buyers.
Never afraid of a challenge outside of work as well as in his professional life, James captained a rugby team in Singapore and was invited to play for the Singapore national team. He has now put completing an ironman event at the top of his ‘to-do list’, believing he has the mental toughness and the determination to see this goal through. James’ can-do attitude is refreshing and is reflected in the way he relates to his clients and in the extra mile he is prepared to go to see a deal completed.
