In 1993, Alan Paul Architects were employed to renovate this 1912 transitional villa .He is recognized as having executed some of the most practical and elegant renovations of villas in the area.\n\nHis initial brief was to enlarge the back of the house ensuring indoor/outdoor flow and to build a new kitchen and bathroom. The house was also rewired at this time. The builder was Richard Redpath, a registered Master Builder.\n\nThe living area at 8.0 x 4.5 metres in area is a very versatile room for entertaining. With the furniture pushed back, it has hosted company dinners with trestle tables down the middle of the room and dinners for 30 - 40 guests seated at round tables. With all the doors open to the verandahs, it is a superb summer room. The floor is new kauri from Lane's historic mill in Totara.\n\nThe old wash house of plank kauri was moved to the back of the section and re- piled, re- roofed and re wired. It is used as a garden shed but it could be converted to a studio, playroom or an office.\n\nThree years later the upper story of master bedroom and en suite were added using the same architect and builder. Both extensions are insulated.\n\nThe house has been regularly painted by villa specialists, North South Decorators.\n\nThe landscaping was inspired by the courtyard gardens of New Orleans with their unique Southern blend of camellias and sub tropical plants in a private setting \n\n
