About Grey Lynn
Grey Lynn is an inner residential suburb of Auckland City. Its located approximately three kilometres to the West of the city centre - nestled between Ponsonby, Westmere and Arch Hill.
Most of the houses were built in the 1880's - 1920's and very few have been replaced by new structures. Hence, Grey Lynn is reputably the largest concentration of wooden 19th century houses in the world. The renovation or gentrification process really began in the early 1990's and as a result house prices and rents have risen significantly.
Grey Lynn is centred around Grey Lynn park, which in 1914 was drained and leveled for playing fields - it was originally too steep and wet to build houses on. The park hosts the annual Grey Lynn Festival which attracts around 100,000 visitors in November each year.
Williamson Ave and Crummer Rd are two of the major streets, with the Grey Lynn shops being located at the top of them. Western Grey Lynn has become very popular with families over the last 10 years. The West Lynn boutiques, cafes and restaurants on Richmond Rd and the nearby tree lined streets give it a lovely neighbourly feel.
