“Kia Ora” Homestead, 38 Tiraumea Road, ...

38 Tiraumea Road, Pahiatua, is a charming semi-rural timber homestead nestled within a spacious 1.9723 ha section, with beautiful mature trees, just south of Pahiatua's main suburban area.

The property enjoys a secluded ambiance, shielded by plantings that were landscaped in the late 1980s.The grounds include a grass tennis court, a small implement shed and an older wood shed. To the rear of the property lies a large expanse of mature trees of predominately pine, macrocarpa and blue gum.

In 1934 construction started by the renowned Charles Tilleard Natusch and sons, This neo-Georgian style residence boasts hipped roofs, casement windows, and distinctive timber weatherboard cladding, reminiscent of the American interpretation of neo-Georgian design. The main entrance is elegantly marked by a highly glazed semi-octagonal sun room, adhering to the general principles of this architectural style.

Inside, the entrance room leads to a passageway with a half-turn staircase adorned with an original polished timber banister. The east side encompasses the dining room and kitchen, complete with a server window, while the west side houses the formal lounge and a den/small lounge with original fireplace surround and built-in shelving.

The upper level comprises four bedrooms, each with original inbuilt wardrobes featuring brass clothes railings and shoe racks. Notable features include a magnificent multi-paned arch-topped window on the mid-stair landing and a sloping ceiling in the master bedroom, reflecting the roofline.

The property has seen few alterations to its form over the years, except for the addition of a spacious carport in the early 1980s. In the late 1990s the homestead underwent renovations to the kitchen, upstairs bathroom and interior linings. Maintenance has been attended to diligently preserving the timeless charm of the property. Kia Ora is special. It offers a calm serenity, seclusion and permanence.
