Scale, soils and water security
Positioned on the fertile Takapau Plains and split across two titles on either side of State Highway 2, this is a well-established farming operation offering genuine scale and future potential. The property consists of a 237ha main block with buildings and 101ha directly opposite on the other side of State Highway 2.
The property is predominantly flat, set across two main terraces. The lower terrace features heavy silt loam soils, top terrace Takapau silt loams. Historically, the block has produced maize for both silage and grain, along with pea crops. The upper terraces, are developed for irrigated production, with two Valley centre pivots covering 57ha on one side and 70ha on the other of Takapau silt loam soils. These areas are currently set up for maize production, providing consistency and efficiency at scale.
A substantial 200,000 cubic metre storage dam is already in place, with consent secured to expand capacity to 385,000 cubic metres once further storage is developed. The existing infrastructure, including pumps and piping, has been designed with this expansion in mind.
Supporting the operation is a comprehensive range of infrastructure. Three-bedroom weatherboard home. Farm improvements include a four-stand woolshed with both open and covered sheep yards—reflecting the property's history as a stud breeding unit. There's also a large four-bay implement shed, semi-circular cattle yards, and a number of additional outbuildings.
The property is well subdivided with a mix of traditional seven-wire fencing and newer electric fencing, and a central laneway provides easy access throughout. Stock water is well catered for via troughs in every paddock, supplied by a separate bore that also services the home and farm buildings. Natural water runs through parts of the property year-round, adding further reliability.
While cropping is a key component, the farm is equally well suited to livestock finishing. New pasture supports winter lamb finishing, and the property typically carries and grows out around 300 bulls annually.
Properties of this scale on the Takapau Plains are tightly held, and with its combination of productive soils, established infrastructure and irrigation, this is a compelling opportunity in a location known for performance.
