It is rare that such pure forest is still available which has enough bulk to produce that powerful tonic of the wilderness very few are able to enjoy. The land is a series of easy ridges lying to the North East and the sun. There are a number if small fresh water streams to produce potable water.
This has to be the ultimate retreat property - a hunting block, build a retreat house, maybe a lodge or just land bank it.
We understand from South Taranaki Council that the owner can clear 2 acres for building and a limited amount of native timber for personal use.
The blocks have abundant bird life - Grey Warbler, Tui, Bellbird, Tomtit, Wood Pigeon, Fantail, Paradise Duck, Pukeko, Morepork and Kingfisher - and DOC have advised the following species could be present - Kaka, Kakariki, Kiwi, Whio. There are also long and short tailed bats. Also introduced species - Magpie, Chaffinch, Thrush, Swallow and Blackbird.
Large native trees comprise Tawa, Rewarewa, Rata, Pukatea, Rimu, Matai, Miro, Kahikatea, Totara and Black Beech.
Game: goats, wild cattle, pigs and a few fallow deer - trout have been seen in the river.
