Appointed in early 2021, Michael is the Head of Retail Property Management, based out of Bayleys Property Services’ Auckland office with a national mandate. Michael’s retail-specific directive is to support existing clients with their retail asset strategies and grow a national management portfolio of retail properties providing clients with a credible alternative option for the outsourced management of their suburban retail hubs, through to large format shopping malls and centres. Michael has over 15 years’ experience working in the property industry in both NZ and the UK, arriving back from London in late 2020 after almost 10 years abroad. Whilst a retail specialist Michael has also worked across the Office, Mixed Use and Industrial sectors throughout his career. Michael is well versed in dealing with the demands of different client types from HNWI, Prop Co’s, Developers, Institutional fund managers and Retailer investors.
Passionate about Retail, Sustainability and Proptech, Michael is keen to work with existing clients and new to future proof and deliver operational efficiencies for their retail assets through a variety of innovative Tech, ESG and Data analytic solutions. During his time in London, Michael dealt with the strategic repositioning of shopping centres and repurposing of redundant retail space. This involved comprehensive reviews of OPEX budgets and implementing various placemaking and customer experience initiatives to help reduce client liabilities, drive cost efficiencies and increase footfall to the retail destinations. Over the years Michael has also been involved in numerous shopping centre transactions assisting in due diligence for acquisitions/disposals and on the property management transition in or out process.
Michael has a Bachelor of Property degree from the University of Auckland and a Diploma of Shopping Centre Management & Marketing (where he was awarded the highest score in the 2007 intake) from the Property Council of Australia.
