A spectacular secluded residence with views out to the Pacific Ocean and just 20 minutes by car east from Havelock North is for sale through Bayleys.
Cape South sits on just over six hectares of undulating hills and features a grand homestead, guest accommodations, lush organic gardens, and stunning landscaped grounds which frame views overlooking Waimarama and Ocean Beaches.
Bayleys rural and lifestyle specialist Tim Wynne-Lewis says Cape South is a unique and special property.
“You don’t get your first view of the homestead and grounds until you drive over the final rise in the driveway and it all unfolds in front of you,” he says.
“Cape South certainly has a real presence to it. The driveway is lined with lovely Claret Ash trees and the well-maintained French villa style homestead is truly spectacular.”
It was the current owners who evolved the original private residence into a holistic health and wellness retreat under the name Cape South and has since been operated by a separate business, Sage and Soul. In 2008, the Guardian newspaper in United Kingdom ranked it number one in its selection of the five best antipodean retreats.
The owners have retained a small cottage nearby which also can be made available to the market if required.
The original villa was built in 1903 as the residence and surgery of Dr Don Allen in the central Hawke’s Bay township of Waipawa. It was carefully relocated to its present site, nestled into the hillside and carefully positioned to capture the views and make the most of the natural shelter.
It was tripled in size with all the extensions and building additional separate guest cottages constructed in the same traditional French villa style.
At the heart of the homestead is a large main living room complemented by a formal dining room and open-plan, farm-style kitchen with casual living and dining areas. Covered verandas provide easy access to outdoor areas and there are six double-bedrooms, each with its own ensuite bathroom.
There is also a two-bedroom cottage with its own private garden and a one-bedroom cottage known as the Hut.
The property features a dedicated wellness studio, a natural saltwater swimming pool, a gym, treatment rooms, and an infrared sauna.
An American barn style shed was also added for storage along with two garden sheds.
A sheltered orchard of heritage variety fruit trees and an organic vegetable garden, big enough for guests and owners to all enjoy produce grown on the property. The food garden includes an apothecary, full of herbs for cooking and herbal preparations.
Wynne-Lewis says Cape South’s proximity to Havelock North and surrounding vineyards, wineries, restaurants and cafes adds to its appeal.
“Cape South is perfectly positioned to capture the surge in visitor numbers we’re experiencing here in the Bay.
“It is 40 minutes by car from Napier airport and 10 minutes from either Waimarama or Ocean Beach, there’s the Maraetotara Falls and a bush walk close by and it’s not far to Te Mata Peak and the Tukituki River Walkway as well,” he says
Cape South is available for purchase by negotiation.
