Putting good people and quality property together is what I do, and since 1985 I’ve happily and successfully been doing this in Auckland, one of the world’s greatest cities to live in.
Property has long held me in its thrall. I studied valuation after leaving school, and then armed with my degree; I spent the first few years of my working career working as a registered valuer. As interesting and educational as this was, I wanted a more involving role in the property industry and in 1985 I started as a real estate agent in the City office of Auckland’s largest real estate operation, Barfoot and Thompson. From the City base I helped clients into and out of properties in virtually every Auckland suburb, loving the way the real estate business built friendships and trust along the way. In 1996 I was appointed as manager of Barfoot’s Ponsonby office, and over the next few years took it from mid-field to become one of the firm’s premier offices. I enjoyed fifteen years in the management side of the business, loved it, and learned a tremendous amount guiding a large and successful team through the industry’s natural cycles. The trap in management I found is the potential to dilute a passion with numbers, and I found I missed the personal interaction (and what a range it is) that comes with helping put a positive property sale together.
Early in 2011 I took the opportunity to return to personal selling. This move has allowed me to associate with another quality real estate business and importantly, one with the systems, support and attitude to deliver quality service to my clients at whatever stage they may be at in their life-real estate cycle.
While Ponsonby and greater Auckland has long been my working domain, for the last 12 years Waiheke has been home. The island of opportunity is where long held property dreams do come true, and it is a market I know well. What’s the key thing I have learned in nearly 30 years in real estate? Simple. Give clients what they want: honesty, knowledge, experience and integrity, all at the same time, and all the time. That’s easy. They’re called values and I’m long on them and they’re easy to share.
