Magical Mangawhai straddles three districts – Rodney, Kaipara and Whangarei and is split into the ‘Village’ on the south west of the harbour, and the ‘Heads’ on the north east - a causeway links both localities. On the doorstep are Langs Beach, Waipu Cove, Te Arai and the greater Kaipara area.
Mangawhai is an incredible natural playground with its sand dunes, stunning coastal and waterfall walks and its high-performing Pacific surf beach whilst our peaceful harbour, flanked by sand dunes that are home to rare trees and birds, offers safe swimming for younger families.
Activities on offer are plentiful. Play a round of golf at our championship golf course, play bowls, paddleboard or kayak the estuary, fish from the jetty, charter a boat or take out your own. An old church now housed in the Pioneer Village at the magnificent, modern museum, hosts movie nights and matinees.
For the children or young at heart, the Mangawhai Activity Zone is sure to please with tennis courts, flying fox, skate park, BBQs... it’s simply worth a visit to see what this community funded facility has to offer. For a more laid back experience, take the time to visit one of the boutique vineyards, perhaps stopping on the way to buy fresh produce from one of the local garden stalls.
Mangawhai is a haven for artists and with two markets held every Saturday morning, residents and visitors are presented with an array of gastro delights and handcrafted treasures. Ceramics, painting, sculpture, food and music play integral roles in the community culture and spirit of Mangawhai.
